Koub is a depressed and perpetually tired man in the twilight of his years. Having lived through many wars and lost many friends, he cannot see a path forward for himself. However, as a doctor, he knows he is still useful to others, and helping people out is what keeps him going, one day at a time.
Because he is depressed, he does not have many interests and does not have a very strong personality, but he is intelligent and kind, and most people enjoy being around him, even if he is a bad conversationalist. He detests war and conflict.
In his youth, Koub was a battle medic, and he kept himself fit. The muscles he cultivated then are still present, but because of his age, there is a layer of fat on top now. He is still quite strong and agile, but if he exerts himself, he feels it the next day.
Being a half-orc, he is the size of a big human, but with green skin, pointy ears and two protruding teeth in the lower jaw. He has short brown hair with lots of greys in the midst. He has his ears pierced with simple iron hoops.
He has very big and bushy eyebrows and droopy eyes. His cheeks are a bit sunken due to age and fatigue. He wears simple clothes, but always brings his red cape along, no matter the weather.
Koub was born to an orc father and human mother, in a village where interspecies marriages were accepted and common. He had a very standard childhood and teenagehood, living happily with his family and friends.
However, when he was around 17, war broke out in his nation and all the able-bodied men in his village got conscripted into the army. Because he was smart, Koub got trained to be a medic, although he was a capable fighter too.
It was during this time that Koub found the love of his life, a fellow soldier in the same platoon. Despite this small happiness, the constant fighting and death that surrounded him was slowly eating away at Koub. The little time he could spend with his lover was Koub's only source of sanity.
The war dragged for many years, and then one day, his lover died during a risky mission that Koub was not included in. The pain of losing his best friend and partner was the final straw for Koub.
Having lost the one good thing in his life, Koub defected, and ran away to a different, neutral nation. There, he offered his medical expertise in exchange for money, and was quickly accepted in a small community.
However, Koub's former generals did not take his defecting well. He was effectively declared a traitor, and forbidden from ever returning to his home country, where his family still lives.
Utterly alone and miserable, Koub tries to live one day at a time, taking care of his community and going to wherever a doctor is needed.
